  • Environmental Agency

    Summary

    • The River Wensum restoration project for the Environmental Agency & Natural England
    • To provide a safe and suitable compound area for the construction site
    • Protect the chalk river habitat and prevent damage to the area
    • Provide temporary access for vehicles

    Problem

The River Wensum and its surrounding area is a site of specific environmental interest and is recognised as one of the most important chalk river habitats in the country. The restoration scheme was designed to address water quality issues and the impact of abstraction and siltation caused by agricultural run-off. There needed to be a temporary ground protection solution to prevent damage to the sensitive area. The EuroMat® was installed to ensure whatever the weather, access could be gained and the river habitat would be protected.

Zigma Ground Solutions along with one of their key distributors, Beaver 84, provided the Environment Agency and Natural England with the EuroMat®.

The EuroMat® provided a suitable compound area for the site and allowed temporary vehicular access to the site and prevented damage and disruption to a sensitive and important site.

    Verdict

The job was successful and the Environment Agency and Natural England made significant cost savings. When compared to alternative methods and conventional aluminium mats, the EuroMat® saved £3,500 on a like for like basis.
